Cracking The Nonbinary Code
Cracking The Nonbinary Code tells the story of Mark, a cisgender male graduate student studying AI, who struggles to understand the perspective of his trans partner, Alyx. Morning banter about Alyx’s transition and recent anti-trans rhetoric leads Mark down an unusual path in his research, where he discovers a gap in both historical and scientific knowledge of gender in his field and his understanding of Alyx’s experiences.
These scenes mark the beginning of a beautiful process, as Mark decides to turn his thesis into a love letter: using the scientific method to better understand the only non-binary constant in his life.
This play is currently a short 10-minute two scene script, co-written and co-directed by Amélia Simard and Amy Wang. It was co-performed by Amélia and Amy during the 2023 Ignite! Youth Festival.
These two scenes currently serve as what would be the introduction to Mark’s larger story into becoming a true ally to his trans partner.
